In the summer of 2004, we began discussing working on a project together to look at Personal Protective Equipment in sport. It came about as a result of working together as coaches on National Camps and also discussions about how to take the game forward. One is a professional learning and development consultant and the other is a professional ergonomist. The blend was good and the way we interacted and discussed possibilities was exciting

In the spring 2005 we began working on a funded project to look at Personal Protective Equipment in sport. Both of us are involved in top level hockey, Grahame as an International coach and Steve as and English Premier League National League keeper.

So, with Steve wanting to do more coaching and Grahame wanting to know more about research and how equipment stands up to tests the 'marriage' of ideas was appropriate.

In a nutshell that's how Spartan formed.

The philosophy is based on that of a Spartan, which was a life of discipline, self-denial, and simplicity.

Subsequently our motto is "Simple and Disciplined". So, everything we do will have this philosophy. It doesn't mean that it won't be creative, it means whatever we deliver will be understandable and practical as well as focused on achievement of set goals.
